Tennis Club News 2017/2018 – Join up now!

With a hint of sunshine, interspersed with lambing storms, thoughts turn to tennis. Our subscription year starts on April 1st and to take best advantage of our early bird reduced subscription scheme please see the membership information below. We probably have the most competitive subscriptions anywhere locally and want to see as many members joining as possible.

The club pitches itself at a friendly level catering for players of all ages (literally!) and capabilities, with weekly club nights, introductory sessions and professional coaching sessions on offer. The club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association.

Last year saw the installation of low level floodlights down one side of the courts which helped evening games reach their conclusion in the autumn months. This year further floodlights are to be installed down the other side of the courts to enhance the facility.

Allendale Tennis Club has the best courts in the Tyne Valley at least as far as Corbridge (and not a sound of a train anywhere). We are grateful to our outstanding grounds team who keep everything in top condition. We already have members from Weardale, Alston and Haydon Bridge and welcome members from all adjoining villages well beyond the confines of the Allen Valleys.

The Courts can be hired by non-members and several local tourist accommodation establishments have a membership arrangement for their visitors.

Last season ended on a high note with the award of Tynedale Sports Personality of the Year to our very own Valeria Dunn. As an inspiration behind the revival of the Allendale tennis Club this was well deserved recognition of everything she does – we have to share her with a few other minor clubs in the village but are grateful all the same.

This year club nights have switched from Tuesday to Wednesday and will start from 5th April weekly at 6pm. These are informal gatherings of members of all abilities and it is not a problem if you can’t make it for 6pm or need to leave early.

We look forward to welcoming members old and new for the 2017 season.
